ABACO group installed the Seabin in the bay of Portovenere – La Spezia

Abaco Group has joined the LifeGate Plasticless® project to protect the environment against plastic pollution in the seas.

Rome, April 19, 2021 – Abaco Group, the European reference player in the provision of software solutions for the management and control of territorial resources oriented to precision agriculture and environmental sustainability, has joined the LifeGate Plasticless® project, which aims to contribute to the decrease of pollution in the Italian seas through the collection of waste , including plastics and microplastics, in the waters of ports and nautical clubs, and to promote a truly circular model of economy and consumption with the aim of reducing, reusing and recycling waste, especially the most harmful to the environment such as plastics.

The Seabin installed thanks to Abaco is a “plastic-eating” trash can floating in the water that, through the spontaneous force of wind and currents, is capable of capturing up to about 1.5 kilograms of waste per day, equal to more than 500 kilograms of debris per year including microplastics from 2 to 5 mm in diameter and microfibers from 0.3 mm. The device, installed in the waters of the Valdettaro Shipyard located in Le Grazie Bay in Portovenere, in the Gulf of Poets in La Spezia, and now a leading nautical hub in the Upper Tyrrhenian Sea area, will allow reporting on the quantities of plastics and microplastics collected.

“Our commitment to sustainability aims to create a virtuous system through initiatives that ensure and safeguard the well-being and needs of the environment and the communities in which we live and operate,” said Antonio Samaritani, CEO of Abaco Group. “We decided to join the LifeGate Plasticless® project because as a company – committed to sustainability in agriculture – we feel a responsibility to play an active role in implementing the European Green Deal, which aims to safeguard the environment from plastic pollution in order to promote a circular economy model as a vehicle for growth and innovation.”

“Actively engaging to preserve biodiversity and the marine ecosystem is crucial to ensure the health of our planet,” said Enea Roveda, CEO LifeGate, “We are happy that more and more companies want to become part of the change and we thank Abaco Group for deciding to take part in LifeGate PlasticLess.

“We are proud to be part of this project. Monitoring our sea and respecting the environment are fundamental goals for us,” commented Luca Erba General Manager Valdettaro Group. “We work with the beauty of our places, respecting it is not only ethically correct but also a forward-looking choice on the business level.”
